Mandible with Device for Bone Re-growth

Roux-en-Y (proximal)
This is one in a series of images illustrating various bariatric surgeries for patients. This simple line illustration shows the Roux-en-Y procedure. During the procedure, the stomach is divided into 2 sections (a small pouch for food and a bypassed portion). The small intestine is divided below the duodenum. The lower portion (“Roux” limb) is repositioned upward and attached to the small stomach pouch. The upper portion is attached to the side of the “Roux” limb at the “Y” connection. This allows digestive juices to mix with food.
